Florida emerges as #2 in Black population coming in second only to New York State. However, almost 20% of Florida's Black population is Foreign born. This is due to the huge influx of Haitians, Jamaicans, Dominicans, and others of African descent from the Caribbean.     

Although they may be of Caribbean descent, several of the new migrants are not coming from the Islands. Many are moving from the Caribbean communities of big cities in the northeast. They move here for the better weather without having to sacrifice culture.
